Dr Ronald Chin’s Explanation Of Chronic Tonsillitis

Is characterized by low-grade tonsil discomfort and halitosis, sometimes with mild upper neck lymphadenopathy. The symptoms include low-grade fever. The symptoms may recur over many years.

The usual cause is actinomyces or sulphur granules. These live in the tonsil crypts, and excess colonies get pushed out into the oral cavity and pharynx.

Antibiotics can offer temporary relief, but the definitive treatment for this is tonsillectomy. They can become tonsil stones if they calcify.
