Dr Ronald Chin Looks At The Anatomy Of The Larynx

The larynx is located centrally in the neck and lies between the oropharynx and trachea. It’s made out of extrinsic and intrinsic muscles and cartilaginous skeleton. It also consists of vocal folds.

The extrinsic muscles of the neck are responsible for positioning the entire larynx in the neck. The intrinsic muscles are responsible for the movement of the vocal folds. During expiration, the vocal folds are brought close together and oscillate generating sound.
