Dr Ronald Chin’s Take On Acute Laryngitis

Acute Laryngitis is the inflammation of the laryngeal mucosa lasting less than 2 weeks. The causes behind this disorder are viral agents like influenza and bacterial agents like S. pneumonia, Moraxella catarrhalis, and H. influenza.

Acute vocal strain can lead to submucosal trauma and vocal fold oedema. The symptoms of it are hoarseness, dyspnea, rhinorrhoea, cough, and sore throat. An endoscopy is done to test for this disorder.

Treatments for this include a self-limiting course, voice rest and inhalation therapy, antibiotics if a concurrent bacterial infection, and avoiding irritants.
